# Collections and sources

> Group Work and Chat conversations and share material between them

A collection groups related **Work** and **Chat** conversations. The sidebar presents these groups under **Projects**. They do not need a Git repository.

Use a collection for research notes, a trip, a launch plan, or a set of documents. A chat can belong to one collection or remain standalone.

## Add shared sources

Open the collection's settings and add files or pasted text as sources. Each new turn in its conversations uses the collection's current sources.

A source is a stored copy. Editing the original file elsewhere does not automatically refresh that copy. Update the collection source when you want subsequent turns to use new material.

## Sources and deliverables

**Sources** are material you provided or the agent used. **Deliverables** are the files it produced. In Work, the session panel displays them separately.

An output does not automatically become a collection source. Add it as a source when other chats should use it, or choose **Save to Atlas** when you want to preserve it independently.

## Move conversations

Changing a conversation's collection changes its grouping and future shared context. It does not move the run's working directory or turn it into a code workspace.

## Schedule work for a collection

A [Pulse](/pulse) in Work or Chat can target a collection. Its current sources travel into each scheduled run. Code pulses target workspaces instead.

## Collections and code projects

| Collection | Code project |
| - | - |
| Groups Work and Chat conversations | Groups checkouts of a Git repository |
| Holds shared files and text | Holds repository paths, scripts, and Git instructions |
| Has no branch or worktree | Contains [workspaces](/workspaces) |
| Can be used without a repository | Starts from a repository |

[Atlas](/atlas) also lets you organize Pages and saved files by project. Saving a library copy is separate from adding a shared source.
